Rocky Bakkes: New Year

Mike and I have never been big on New Year's resolutions. In fact, I don't think either of us have made one since we got married...or met...either way, it's been a while. This year we made a resolution to do one new thing a week together. We are only three weeks in but so far we've had a blast trying out some new stuff!

Mike makes an amazing stir fry that we have for dinner almost every week, so for the first week we made our own spring rolls from scratch. They were delicious! And way easier than we thought they would be. We have already made them a second time! Here's the recipe in case anyone is interested.

Our second week we went down to Burns Park and played disc golf. Neither of us had been before and our first basket was, well, really really sad. I think it took me 8-10 throws to make it in. Mike did better. We thought we were getting the hang of it until we stopped to let some serious players pass us. We watched how they were throwing the disc and tried out some of their techniques. After that we played a lot better. Mike did really well (we didn't keep score) and I finally managed to make the eighteenth basket in three throws! It was a lot of fun and we would definitely go again.

The third week we went down the street to the Retrocade. The guys who own it have been collecting and fixing up original arcade games for 17 years and opened up the store to let everyone enjoy them. They plan on rotating out different games to keep it interesting. You pay a flat fee and can play almost all the games without quarters. We remember a few games from playing them on the computer as kids. They also have air hockey and Foosball, which we also played. Neither one of us is very good at foosball... It was a lot of fun. I think Mike liked it a little better and I did, but I'd still go back again.
